I thought that the beginning of this one suffered a little bit from first book in the series info dump and it was a little slow for me. Once it picked up I really enjoyed the world. It's an interesting take on elemental magic and I think there's a good set up for the overarching story with Gin's family. I liked Gin and the secondary characters. The only thing I found slightly annoying was the tendency to repeat things. Gin has gray eyes. I must have read that 50 times. There were some other things that I found repetitive as well but it didn't really take me out of the story and I still enjoyed the ride.
