This is overall a good romance with an interesting plot and witty dialogue. What's holds me back from liking it as much as others by this author is mainly the heroine. This is entirely a "taste" thing. She's not inconsistently written or any other issue. Violet is simply a heroine type that I don't enjoy. Shameful confession - I don't like Scarlet O'Hara. And that's the type of heroine I found Violet to be. She's rich, spoiled, beautiful and bored with all her privilege. She expects everyone to do her bidding and that she can just bat her eyes or stamp her feet to get out of it when she gets in over her head. Much like Scarlet, she's got a brain but she really only uses it to manipulate people to get her way. She's truly a bit childish and that's not something I prefer in a characterization. Flint is a decent hero but precious little of the book is from his POV and I think it suffers because of it. I might have liked Violet better if I had seen her more through his eyes as he falls in love instead of being in her head. Like I said, a matter of taste. If you like Violet, then you'll enjoy the book more than I did because outside of that (and a bit of a rushed ending) it really was a good story.
