I know once I start a Jim Butcher book I won't come up for air until it's finished. Although Dresden is probably more in my wheel house I'm loving the Alera series as well. Nothing revolutionary here, it's firmly in the "farmboy finds out he has a Destiny" mold but it's fun, the characters are interesting and you care about them. The Cane and their culture have a bigger role in this one and being a dog lover I of course loved all the descriptions of how they communicated both with words and body language, lots of very canine ear twitching. Tavi's secret heritage is now known and the stakes are higher than they've been in previous books. I'm torn between wanting to read the next one right away to see how it all ends and waiting since it's the only full length Butcher I haven't read yet.
